Thanks to an improving economy, the life sciences sector is springing to life, says Commodore Builders project executive Jason Theberge. He says that companies continue to increase their spending on capital and maintenance/upgrade projects, and the natural next step is building new clinical processing suites. There is a flurry of research and development activity around Cambridge, Jason says, with an eye on manufacturing products that would be used on patients for the first time and that support a variety of therapies. The downside: a shortage in the skilled labor force, with fewer young people getting into the trade and older professionals retiring. Yet there is no shortage of work, Jason says.
