Desco To Start On $80M Development On Old Shriners Hospital Site

The Desco Group is about to begin work in an $80M mixed-use development to be anchored by a Life Time Fitness location on the site of the former Shriners Hospital in Frontenac. The developer first will raze the former hospital.

The project is slated for completion in the fall of 2019. Besides Life Time and office space, two sit-down restaurants are also part of the plan.

The locally based Desco has not disclosed any tenants for the other parts of the project, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Desco acquired the 15-acre site at 2001 South Lindbergh Blvd. from the hospital earlier this month for an unspecified price. The hospital left in 2015 after more than 50 years, relocating to a smaller facility in St. Louis.

After that deal closed, the developer sold 10 acres of the site to Life Time Fitness, which is in an expansion mode. The gym chain has 127 locations in 35 major markets.

Sansone Group's Grant Mechlin and Mark Kornfeld represented Life Time in the Frontenac deal.
