The Pierce: Before and After

San Jose

Sares Regis Group of Northern California's The Pierce project is slated for completion in 2016, and Clark Builders just sent us this live shot of the construction. The 232-unit development is targeting Gen X tech workers in downtown San Jose and is accessible by light rail. The building’s façade features angled bay windows that focus views toward downtown, and along another street, the building utilizes more traditional forms and reuses existing brick and timber from the buildings that were previously on the site.

The remaining west façade terraces down in height from eight to five stories, incorporating townhouse forms and a roof deck to transition to the existing residential neighborhood. An enclosed outdoor plaza includes a pool, and seating and barbecue areas. Unique to this project site is that it is the former site of Steinberg headquarters. The international architectural firm—which designed The Pierce—has moved to the core of downtown on Market Street adjacent to the San Jose Museum of Art.
