All Bets On Belize
Last week we wrote about where discerning CRE professionals go on holiday. Gordon Ahalt, formerly of Bentall Kennedy, has his sights set on Belize, though not for tourism purposes. He's raising $25M for a farming venture in the former British Honduras, growing corn, soybeans and peas. There's more risk, but Gordon figures the potential returns are greater than 20% un-leveraged. "Economically, it's a lot more attractive than anything I see in real estate," he says. (If it works, look for all new green roofs in Seattle to include peas.)
