Music School Plans 11-Story Tower on Van Ness

Placeholder

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music has filed a preliminary application to build an 11-story tower at 200 Van Ness Ave. The building would include publicly accessible performance space and 140 units to house faculty and staff.

The filing comes after the music school purchased a 13k SF commercial building at 214 Van Ness earlier this year for $8.3M. The school also purchased the 27-unit, rent-controlled building at 200 Van Ness for $5.9M. Construction is planned within the next three years. Tenants of the rent-controlled building will be relocated during construction and be given the opportunity to move into the new building at current rents.

The two properties are two blocks away from the conservatory’s campus on Oak Street. Students are currently spread out across several residences in the area. The Van Ness building will consolidate students into one location. [SFC]
