Instacart Close To Inking Exclusive 5-Year Delivery Agreement With Whole Foods

Strengthening the bond between e-commerce startups and traditional grocery retailers, San Francisco's delivery startup Instacart (HQ above) and specialty grocer Whole Foods are close to signing a five-year deal to make Instacart exclusive delivery partner for Whole Foods, sources told Re/code this week.

Neither company would comment on the reported deal. The companies have worked together since 2014, with Instacart deliveries making up a “mid-to-high single digit” part of sales for some stores, the company stated in this month's earnings report, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

Bay Area grocery chain Andronico's also works with Instacart, with three of the chain's trade areas exceeding $1M in total Instacart sales. [SVBJ]
