Oakland Pitches New Waterfront Home For The A's

While all eyes are on the Raiders after their failed bid to move to Los Angeles (and the declaration that Oakland was not fit to be an NFL city), another city sports team, the Oakland A's, is pondering its next stadium location.

Mayor Libby Schaaf wants a new ballpark at Howard Terminal, a site just north of Jack London Square owned by the Port of Oakland, while the A's are reviewing all options, including a new stadium at the Coliseum site. The city suggested five sites in a recent report, including Howard Terminal, Laney College, Brooklyn Basin and the site of a US Postal Service facility in West Oakland, according to the SF Chronicle.

The Howard Terminal site has been proposed before and met with resistance from the A's due to the lack of easy access to transportation near the location and the need for toxic site cleanup. [SFC]
