Sudberry Looks Beyond Civita

It still has 10 years and millions of investment dollars left to go, but the first phase of Civita has officially opened.

Sudberry Properties just debuted West Park, its 612-unit apartment complex, the latest development on its planned 230-acre mixed-use master-planned project in Mission Valley. Ultimately, Sudberry sees the project encompassing 480k SF of retail, 420k SF of office and 4,780 residential and multifamily units in a campus setting that sits atop a former sand and gravel quarry. Sudberry SVP Marco Sessa tells us they're working on a schematic design for several more blocks, including the commercial space. Civita already is home to Circa 37, a 306-unit apartment complex that opened in 2012, and some 300 single-family houses, row homes and condos.

Beyond that, Sudberry is focused on starting the residential component of its Oceanside El Corazon development where it's already developed and operates—in a JV with SoCal Sports Complex—22 soccer fields where tournaments are held. Other development uses surrounding the fields could also eventually include commercial, hotel and civic facilities. Marco also tells us the firm is eyeing development projects along the I-15 corridor in Rancho Bernardo, along the Scripps Poway Pkwy and Carroll Canyon.
