Convention Center Becomes Church During Papal Visit

Placeholder

It's an unusual transformation of meeting space: the Pennsylvania Convention Center has been transformed into a massive church this week for the World Meeting of Families convention. The 12,000-seat church includes an altar, jumbo screens and stained glass as a backdrop. It will also be a satellite viewing center for the elderly and disabled on Sunday during Pope Francis' mass on the Ben Franklin Parkway. The facility's 2011 expansion by 62% made it possible to host all the events associated with Pope Francis' visit, according to Convention Center CEO John McNichol. [PBJ]
