Women's Voices Theater Festival!

Last night we celebrated the power and talent of incredible women at the Women's Voices Theater Festival Launch Party, kicking off a presentation of over 50 productions authored by women.

The event was held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and featured cocktails and light desserts. We snapped Molly Smith, Artistic Director of Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, and Eric Schaffer, Artistic Director of Signature Theatre.

Special guest Marg Helgenberger, better known for her acting on TV's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, is surrounded by Single Carrot Theatre’s Alix Fenhagen and Genevieve de Mahy, and Live Garra Theatre’s Carol Blue.

The festival involves 51 participating theaters, doing 56 fully produced world premiere plays, and 72 female playwrights, the largest collaboration of theater companies working simultaneously to produce original works by female writers in history. Here, the festival's coordinating producers, Nan Barnett and Jojo Ruf, bookend Studio Theatre managing director Meridith Burkus and Woolly Mammoth’s Meghan Pressman.

38 additional events will follow the launch, including women-led discussions and workshops at DC theaters. Here, NASA-TV’s Chuck Nixon surrounded by representatives from The New Millennium Howard Players: Jane Miller, Janet Nettles, Noelle Lindsay and Phyllis Reid.
