The Elixir of Love!

Last night we also went to The Elixir of Love Cocktail Competition at the Italian Embassy. We snapped Tryst’s David Rodriguez and Tia Scagliarini flanking Hillel’s Arya Marvazy; at right, NIH’s Luca Fanella and WNO artistic associate Colin Brush.

The party honored Donizetti's famed comic opera, The Elixir of Love, L'elisir d'amore, which opens at the Kennedy Center on March 20. Here, Fetching Foodie’s Rachel Mastandrea and World Bank’s Claire Kairys flank W Hotel’s Joseph Ambrose, who created Trevor’s Love Potion: gin, Campari, raspberry, lemon, and love.

The event was hosted by the Washington National Opera and City Paper and featured top mixologists from Founding Farmers, Satellite Room, The Gibson, Osteria Morini, and the W who created their own love potions. Here, WNO tenor Patrick O’Halloran and soprano Jacqueline Echols, who sang.

The winning drink was by City Tap House’s Jo-Jo Valenzuela: Quanto e bella, quanto e cara, one of the first songs sung in The Elixir of Love. You can check it out at the Kennedy Center throughout the run of the show. Here, Italian Embassy’s Christian Lungarotti and Franco Impala with new Georgetown restaurant Fiola Mare’s Luca Giovannini and Don Ciccio & Figli’s Francesco Amodeo.
