Josh Galper - Personal
Josh Galper is the Chief Policy Officer, SVP-Business Development and General Counsel of Personal, a cloud-based service that empowers people to capture and reuse their own data. He heads legal, privacy, business development, public policy and communications, and co-heads security. The only way for the digital world to operate fairly and efficiently, he says, is to make individuals the hub for their own data and allow them to reuse it however they choose. After growing up on Chicago’s north shore, Josh graduated from Yale College and Yale Law School. Before joining Personal in 2011, he helped build the crisis management and public strategies law practice with Lanny Davis and a team of colleagues at Patton Boggs and then Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where Josh made partner and later co-chaired the practice.
What you didn't know about Josh:
His first boss was former US Sen. David Boren. When Boren became the president of the University of Oklahoma, Josh went with him to become OU’s press secretary. (His real first boss was his dad: Josh delivered letters for his father's law firm in downtown Chicago at age 10.)
Josh was one of the early lawyers in Sidley & Austin’s privacy practice in 2000.
He serves on the US DHS Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation DC Metro area board, and the national Appleseed board.
Political stints include having worked for Bill Bradley’s presidential campaign 1999-2000, Rahm Emanuel’s first congressional primary campaign, and on the speechwriting teams for podium speakers at the 2004 and 2008 Democratic National Conventions.
He made a brief cameo as a White House spokesman in Alex Berenson's latest John Wells novel, Twelve Days.
