Friday was National Doughnut Day, and we're as shocked as you that it's not a national holiday. Still, we'll do our best to honor it by branching out across the world of sweets to catch up with two former lawyers turned dessert purveyors.

Yael Krigman was an international trade lawyer at White & Case before she realized that her destiny was to be a baker. She's since launched Baked By Yael, the District's first "cakepoppery." (Part of it was funded through a Kickstarter campaign we featured in 2013.) Now folks have been picking up cakepops, bagels, rugelach and other sweet treats at her Woodley Park storefront since January. (May we suggest a National Cakepop Day?)

Puja Satiani was a government contracts litigator at Crowell & Moring who fell in love with chocolate and seeing "people's faces light up" when they tried one of her desserts. Like Yael, some of her first supporters were friends and former colleagues from her law firm. (We talked to Puja about her launching her new career here.) Now an official chocolatier, Puja sells her confections online and in stores in DC and MD. Do you know a lawyer who's swapped the legal world for selling sweets?
