Senator Kay Hagan gave the keynote at a Hedge Fund Association event at K&L Gates this week, talking about the JOBS Act (Jumpstart Our Business Startups) and crowdfunding, concerns with both Labor and SEC trying to define what it means to be a fiduciary, and Fannie and Freddie (a housing finance reform bill passed last week in committee that would wind them both down). And of course, tax reform. The last reform was in '86, when her daughter was born, Sen. Hagan says; since then, her daughter's made her a grandmother.

Cary spoke on a panel with K&L Gates' Andres Gil, C&A Consulting's Amy Poster, Wales Capital's Kim Wales, Olympian Group's Michael Levas, and Thompson Hines' Richard Heller (who happened to be a law school classmate of Sen. Hagan's).

We also spotted K&L Gates public policy partners Manny Rouvelas and Bill Myhre. Manny launched the firm's DC office 40 years ago as a one-man maritime boutique; it now has around 200 lawyers.
