Cliff Greenblatt joined TASC Inc when it spun off from Northrop Grumman. He helped launch its legal department, establish policies and operational discipline, conduct training, manage corporate governance and create an ethics program, all while addressing day-to-day legal issues. More recently, he worked with shareholders on the $1.3B sale of TASC to Engility, completed in late February. It is a key development for TASC, he says, building an even greater combined company. Combined, the government services provider has more than 10,000 professionals and revenue of around $2.5B. Cliff's other in-house experience includes General Dynamics, Accenture, MCI and Veridian, after starting out at Steptoe. At Veridian, he helped handle the company's acquisition and take it public along the way. While corporate transactions are the headline-grabbers, Cliff says that he's equally energized supporting day-to-day operations—for instance, working on satellite development programs. (There is nothing like seeing the satisfaction—and relief—on the faces of a satellite team after a successful launch.)
What you didn't know about Cliff:
He had a paper route in eighth grade with interesting business dynamics: they had to buy the bags and rubber bands from the distributor and made money only on what they collected from subscribers.
He plays lead guitar in a rock band called the Fabulous Dialtones. (The name stems from the core group meeting at MCI.) Their next show is April 16 at Jammin Java in Vienna, VA.
The Eagles' Glen Frey and Joe Walsh opened for the Fabulous Dialtones at the House of Blues in New Orleans—or Cliff's band was given the stage after the Eagles members left, depending on your perspective.
