Introducing After Hours

The National Museum of American History provides the opportunity to learn more about what’s on your plate and in your glass through its After Hours program. Most recently, Kaz Sushi Bistro’s Kaz Okochi took to the stage with FoodStory founder Yoko Isassi and moderator Bonny Wolf to discuss both the origins and Americanization of sushi, plus helpful tips. “Always sit at the sushi bar, you’ll get the best rice and a personalized chef experience,” Yoko says.

After the brief panel discussion, attendees grabbed trays of sushi and sides and headed over to watch Kaz demonstrate how to roll maki and temaki (hand rolls) with help from the audience. Even acclaimed French chef Michel Richard of Central Michel Richard took a turn. We snapped the longtime friends goofing off. The next After Hours event, “FOOD in the Garden,” is Aug. 20. They'll take the tastings, talks and tours outside to the museum's Victory Garden.
