The American Society of Interior Designers' D.C. HQ is the first office in the world to earn Platinum certification in both the LEED rating system and the WELL Building Standard.

The 8,500 SF office at 1152 15th St. NW was designed by Perkins+Will. The building's owner, Carr Properties, set out to create the first WELL certified building in D.C. when it executed the lease in 2015.

The LEED certification, a measure of environmental sustainability, was given on Jan. 18 and the WELL recognition, which focused on human health and wellness, was given on June 9.

“At ASID, we take tremendous pride in being a champion for good design and demonstrating that design impacts lives," ASID CEO Randy W. Fiser said in a release. “We began this project with a clear goal of showcasing the many ways design can positively affect the health and well-being of employees while boosting resource efficiency."

Just a few blocks away, The Summit Foundation's 5K SF HQ at 1717 K St. NW also received a top sustainability honor.

It became the first D.C. office to earn Living Building Challenge Petal Certification from the International Living Future Institute. The top recognition in building sustainability, the certification is split into several categories, or petals. The Summit Foundation's office received certification for place, materials, equity and beauty.

Summit Foundation's HQ was designed by Perkins+Will and opened last year. It is just the 22nd office worldwide to receive the certification.
