The much-maligned Silver Spring Transit Center has targeted an opening date of Sept. 20. Metro has received a formal request from Montgomery County executives to finally integrate it into the regional transit system. The $112M train-bus hub is more than four years behind schedule and has exceeded budget by tens of millions of dollars. An inspection after the initial completion revealed it to be unsafe and in need of significant repairs. Metro has 10 days to accept the hub into the system and is expected to approve the transfer, barring any significant developments. [DCist]
