Sidwell Friends Selling and Relocating from Bethesda Property

The Sidwell Friends School has announced plans to sell the property for its lower school and move it next to its middle and upper schools in DC. The private school has been in Bethesda’s Edgemoor neighborhood since 1963. Located at 5100 Edgemoor Lane, the lower school educates students from pre-K through fourth grade.

Sidwell also signed an agreement to buy The Washington House property next to its existing DC campus, which the lower school would move to with zoning approval. The school will lease the Bethesda property until construction is complete on its new facility in 2019.

The property will be marketed with the assistance of a committee of alumni and parents who are also real estate advisers. Property records indicate the site is valued at $5.5M. Thomas Sidwell founded the Quaker private school in 1883. Current attendees include Sasha and Malia Obama. [Bethesda]
