DC Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Harry Wingo (on the left with PNC Bank's Sonia McCormick and Edward Puzio in 2014) has resigned, for what the chamber described as personal reasons. Chamber VP Margaret Singleton will serve as interim executive, effective immediately.
The former Google executive and retired Navy SEAL has led the Chamber since April 2014, when he stepped into the top post to replace the resigning Barbara Lang. He described the parting as “amicable” to the Washington Business Journal and declined to comment beyond that.
During his tenure with the Chamber, Wingo filed a civil suit against a ballot initiative that sought to raise the minimum wage in the District to $15/hour by 2020. He has also been embroiled in a dispute over a sweeping paid leave bill that was introduced by councilman David Grosso, arguing that businesses of all sizes would be hampered by the proposed bill.
