Residents in Anacostia will soon be welcoming another national retailer to the neighborhood. Walgreens is set to take up space at the neighborhood icon known as the “Anacostia” building at 1117 Good Hope Rd SE.

Walgreens will be the latest national retailer, following 7-Eleven and Little Caesars, to put down some roots in Anacostia, Congress Heights on the Rise reports. The Anacostia building will need some work to make that become a reality, as years of neglect have led to a rundown site that will require extensive interior and exterior renovations. No word yet on when Walgreens will deliver, but interior demolition work is in progress.

Anacostia, a neighborhood just east of the Anacostia River, saw a healthy spike in real estate prices last year. For 2015, median home prices checked in at $257k, a 35% jump over 2014’s $190k. Homes are also moving at a brisk pace in the neighborhood, with more than half of the homes sold spending less than 20 days on the market. [CHOTR]
