Saul Envisions New Development for Mazda Site

Saul Centers has informally approached Arlington County about redeveloping a recently acquired Rosenthal Mazda dealership (pictured) and a neighboring Haute Fabrics at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and North Glebe Road. The developer envisions a 431-unit apartment building with 68,285 SF of ground-floor retail at the 2.56-acre lot. The building has the potential for 500k SF, the Washington Business Journal reports. Saul purchased the Mazda site for $40M last August, and acquired the adjacent lot in December for $2.8M. The developer is looking to rezone the land to allow for one building with heights ranging from four stories to 12 stories. The ultimate height and density of the building will depend on the zoning category, which is currently "high medium residential mixed-use," a category that serves as a transition between high- and low-density communities.
