Is Everyone Craving Multifamily in Wheaton?

We told you yesterday about Lowe Enterprises' just-delivered office-to-apartment conversion in Wheaton, The George (the one with the gold rooftop). And in case you haven't been up there recently, a whole host of DC multifamily development titans have invested right next to Lowe's project. Take Foulger-Pratt, which delivered its Exchange apartments (far left) last year. It almost looks like an office building with the corporate signage up top, but that signifies the massive, revamped Safeway store on the Exchange's ground floor. Bozzuto's also in the mix with MetroPointe (in between The Exchange and The George), an apartment complex right on top of the Wheaton Metro the firm co-developed with Montgomery County. Gables got in on the party, too, with its Flats at Wheaton Station project (right).

Across Georgia Avenue, Washington Property Company has joined the fray. Adjacent to the Westfield Wheaton Mall, the firm just delivered Solaire Wheaton, a 232-unit, LEED Silver apartment complex.

And just behind Developer's Row—as the previous stretch of Georgia Avenue seems to be turning into—suburban multifamily guru Allen & Rocks has gone with a more subdued look with its Encore at Wheaton Station property. (Perfect place to live if you're often forget to pick up flowers on Valentine's Day.) The firm developed the site 50 years ago and has given it a major facelift.
