Millennials in Arlington and DC are the second and fourth most likely in the US to be living with roommates, coming in just behind first-place San Francisco, according to a recent study.

The average number of younger residents in the top 50 cities living with people who aren’t their family or spouses is 12%, a number that jumps to 23% in Arlington and 21% in DC, DCist reports. Several factors contribute to the number of residents with roommates, including the average cost of housing in the District being the nation's third-highest and the area having one of the highest rates of singles in the country.

DC and Arlington also cracked the top 10 list for places where 30-somethings are most likely to have roommates, commonly referred to as "Peter Pan Syndrome," with Arlington coming in third and DC eighth. The share of Americans with roommates has steadily increased over the past 50 years due to factors ranging from housing costs to later marriage and increased urbanization.

One thing is for certain, with 38.2% of DC residents falling into the Millennial demographic, those seeking roommates should have little trouble filling their empty rooms. [DCist]
