A Judiciary Square apartment building completed in 1890 could soon get a 12-story addition next door.
Reston-based Renaissance Centro filed plans with the Historic Preservation Review Board to build a 91K SF addition with 200 hotel rooms and 65 apartments, Urban Turf reports.
The Harrison, one of D.C.'s oldest apartment buildings, sits at 704 Third St. NW across the street from one of the District's newest major projects, Capitol Crossing. The building was designated as a D.C. landmark in 1990.
The developer received approval from the Board of Zoning Adjustments in 2012 to build the addition either as hotel or apartments. After filing for multiple extensions, Renaissance Centro is ready to move forward.
The HPRB will take up the conceptual review at its board meeting Dec. 21. The plans call for a restaurant and bar with outdoor patio seating on the ground floor, nearly 200 hotel rooms on floors two through seven and up to 65 apartments on the top five floors. The building would have terraces on the sixth floor and a rooftop pool.
