Macerich has received approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for the final development plans for Tysons Corner Center. The new plans will add about 1M SF to the previously approved plans for 2.35M SF of mixed-use.
The mall can now move forward with its transformation that will include housing, offices and retail. Plans call for 737 residential units spread across three apartment buildings, 133k SF of retail, a 12-story office building and more than 30k SF of park space. Upon completion, the 78-acre property will be home to 6M SF, including the current 2.4M SF mall.
The project will help with Tysons continuing efforts to transform itself into an urban center. The project's first buildings have already been delivered, including the 22-story Tyson Tower office and the 30-story VITA apartment tower. [Fairfax]
