A plan to turn a stretch of auto dealerships in Tysons into a 12-building, mixed-use development could move forward next month.
The Fairfax County Planning Commission on Jan. 18 will review the proposal from Capital Automotive to rezone the 19-acre site, above, into roughly 4.5M SF of development, the Washington Business Journal reports.
Capital Automotive submitted its plan in 2011 to rezone the properties on Spring Hill Road and Leesburg Pike to allow for construction of a dozen 19- to 33-story towers where auto dealerships and other low-rise buildings sit. The plan calls for five office buildings, six residential buildings, ground-floor retail, a hotel and a public park.
The planning commission will first consider the western portion of the project, which includes two office buildings of up to 475k SF, two residential buildings with up to 740 units and ground-floor retail, plus another parcel with potential for a third high-rise office building.
Honda of Tysons Corner and Rosenthal Jaguar currently occupy that portion of the site, and it is unclear where they will be relocated.
The site sits near JBG's Tysons West. The Chevy Chase-based developer already delivered a mixed-use building with a Walmart anchor and is working on two more high-rises, one office and one residential. [WBJ]
