The Arlington County Board on Saturday approved two mixed-use buildings that combined will include 195 condos and about 15k SF of retail.
The first project is a 15-story building on an 18k SF site at 2000 Clarendon Blvd, which has been planned since last June. It will include 86 market-rate units and four affordable housing units, as well as 2k SF of ground-floor retail. It will be developed by Bush Construction Corp and designed by WDG Architecture, Urban Turf reports.
“This project will put homes—including affordable homes available for purchase—and retail options within walking distance of Courthouse Metro,” says County Board chair Libby Garvey. “It was identified as a key redevelopment site in our Courthouse Sector Plan Addendum, and will make the neighborhood more vibrant by adding a well-designed, mixed-use building with smart, sustainable features.”
The second project, at the corner of Columbia Pike and South Barton Street, would include 105 condos and 14,500 SF of retail. Part of the Columbia Pike Special Revitalization District, this project will preserve the existing facades and add streetscape improvements. Since the plan for a streetcar on Columbia Pike fell through, developers have been mixed on the overall state of the Pike.
