Maryland approved 102 medical marijuana licenses late last year, with 28 in the DC suburbs, and a warehouse facility where medical cannabis will be grown and processed has now broken ground.

Holistic Industries is building the 72k SF two-story warehouse in Capitol Heights. The company is partnering with Willco to develop the facility.

“It is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of real estate development for this new industry sector in the state of Maryland," Willco president and CEO Jason Goldblatt said in a release. "We at Willco are very excited to commence construction of this build-to-suit, cutting-edge cultivation and processing facility for Holistic.”

Willco expects to have the facility operational this summer, and Holistic aims have its product available later in the year. Holistic will focus on manufacturing products for children suffering seizures from severe epilepsy, a symptom one of the cannabinoids found in marijuana has been shown to stop.
