Hitt Contracting, an 80-year-old Falls Church-based general contractor with offices throughout the country, has just undergone a major leadership shake-up.

Kim Roy, 41, who has been with the company since 1999, was named CEO. With the promotion, Hitt said Roy is the only female CEO of the Engineering News-Record's 100 largest contractors in the U.S.

Jeremy Bardin and Drew Mucci were named co-presidents. Previous co-Presidents Jim Millar and Brett Hitt will become co-chairmen of a newly formed board, with Russell Hitt serving as chairman emeritus.

As CEO, Roy said she plans to focus on improving productivity by experimenting with new technologies such as robotics and 3D printing.

"The industry is ripe for change," Roy told Bisnow Thursday. "We want the company to be part of that change. We're excited about spending time in the R&D arena and investing in solutions."

Roy also plans to continue Hitt's national growth by opening a new office in Richmond, Virginia, next year and expanding its presence in Seattle.

With her leadership role, Roy said she hopes to inspire more young women to join the industry, including in the 50 vacant positions Hitt is hiring for.

"Certainly I think it adds visibility to women in the workplace," Roy said of her promotion. "I would love to be a role model."

Bardin has worked at Hitt since 2002. Mucci, who spent 10 years with Hitt from 2002 to 2012, rejoined the company in August after five years with Gilbane Building Co. He said he will be focused on supporting the company's more established markets and helping with the Richmond expansion.

"Having a different perspective from a large national competitor with the scale they do has given me a lot of different thought processes," Mucci said. "Kim and Jeremy have been here for a long time, so that mixed with some relevant experience from outside will play well together and help us fuel the company."
