D.C. United is already building a 15,000-seat soccer stadium on Buzzard Point, but now the soccer franchise is planning another stadium for its second-division team.
The team has struck a tentative deal with Loudoun County for a 5,000-seat stadium at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park in Leesburg, the Washington Business Journal reports.
Under the deal, set to go before the county board of supervisors next month, Loudoun County would provide the land and $15M in financing for the project. The proposed complex would include four soccer fields available to the community, a training facility, a youth development program and office space. It would employ about 50 people.
The second-division stadium would be much smaller than Audi Field, the new 15,000-seat D.C. United stadium under construction on Buzzard Point in Southwest D.C. That facility will also include 14K SF of retail and a 40K SF public plaza. It is set to open in 2018.
