A JV of Community Builders and Emory Beacon of Light has brought on Ellisdale Construction to demolish a Brightwood church and build a 99-unit affordable housing project.
Joined by Mayor Muriel Bowser, members of each company broke ground last week on the $42.5M project at 6100 Georgia Ave NW, dubbed The Beacon Center.

A portion of the Emory Methodist United façade will be preserved as Ellisdale builds the four-story building on the site, rendered above. The building is expected to deliver in 2018.
The project will be financed in part by a $17.2M loan from the DC Department of Housing and Community Development’s Housing Production Trust Fund and $900k of Neighborhood Investment Funds administered by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.
Bowser has prioritized affordable housing, just yesterday announcing a $106M investment for 19 projects across the District.
The mayor also joined Ellisdale last week in Mount Vernon Triangle when they cut the ribbon on a 133-unit apartment building.
