Toronto Councillor Josh Matlow took to Twitter to call US presidential hopeful Donald Trump a “fascist” and urge owners of Trump International Hotel & Tower to change its name. A letter the councillor sent to Talon International Development requesting removal of the Trump sign—posted to his website—cited The Donald’s “offensive and exclusionary” remarks (calling Mexicans “criminals and rapists”; suggesting Muslims be banned from entering the US). “To have the Trump name displayed so prominently on our skyline signals a tacit acceptance of hateful and divisive views.” (Talon said in a statement that the opinions of Donald Trump “in no way reflect the position of the company’s views or those of its investors and owners.”)
