Eager Retailers Drive Aventura Mall Expansion

Aventura Mall’s adding a new, three-level, 241k SF retail wing and parking garage, according to Turnberry Associates principal Jackie Soffer. Turnberry's early ’80s vintage mall (the apex of the mall generation) has expanded before during a hot economy, including a near doubling in size in ’97 and the addition of a Nordstrom and a three-level wing in ’07, bringing the mall to 2.7M SF. Why the expansion now? Demand from retailers, Jackie explains, who are eager to cater to a growing number of tourists and other affluent shoppers (the mall sees about 30 million visitors a year these days).
