Among the 50 largest cities in the country, Seattle has the highest percentage of Millennial movers, according to the Census Bureau. Namely, about 36% of the city’s 25- to 34-year-olds — more than one-third — changed homes within the past year, the Seattle Times reports. Nationally, only one-quarter of 25- to 34-year-olds moved within the past year. The data also shows, true to traditional form, people over 35 tend to move a lot less as they take on homeownership and child rearing.

Many Millennials moving to Seattle are coming from somewhere else, attracted by the area's strong employment base and other factors that make Seattle a good place to live. But 63% of Millennial movers were already living in Seattle or elsewhere in King County.

Why are young Seattleites moving so much? Many are simply looking for cheaper rent, more space or a nicer apartment in a market that has seen rents skyrocket in recent years. Fewer cite reasons like a change in their family (new kids, for instance) or to take advantage of an easier commute (possibly because their are few easy commutes in metro Seattle).
