San Francisco has around 55,000 units of housing in its development pipeline, up from 51,000 a year ago. That number includes:
8,100 under construction;
5,500 with building permits issued, approved or underway;
28,300 in projects approved but not permitted;
12,600 under review by the city's planning department.
Pipelines can look pretty far into the future, reports SocketSite. Some of the approved projects included in the numbers are for longer-term efforts, such as Treasure Island, The Shipyard in Hunters Point and Park Merced. Last year, around 3,000 housing units were completed in San Francisco. [SS]
