Contractor Selected For Oakland Residential Tower Development

Gerding Edlen is moving forward with its 23-story tower in Oakland. It has selected Suffolk as the building contractor for its 1700 Webster St. residential tower project. The 270K SF building, designed by Perkins+Will, is among several towers proposed along Webster Street.

The project will include 206 apartments, ground-level retail, three stories of above-grade parking, a partially enclosed rooftop with a lounge and a pool, and a fifth-story elevated plaza deck with a fitness center and lounge areas.

1700 Webster is scheduled for completion winter 2018/spring 2019. Suffolk will use a build smart approach, including using the latest lean construction principles and virtual design and construction to enhance teamwide collaboration, increase efficiencies and minimize waste. The contractor also performed extensive pre-construction services, including a complete 5D estimating process.
