Though Danville needs more housing, city leaders are standing firm on just how a new apartment complex should look, rejecting a three-story complex as "too urban."
The town council, planning commission and design review board reviewed plans for ROEM's 150-unit apartment complex at 373 Diablo Rd earlier this week only to find that it didn't mesh with Danville's rural sensibilities. The developers have taken the feedback to use for future plans, Inside Bay Area reports.
Instead of a single three-story building (the town previously rejected the three-story redevelopment of the Danville Hotel, approved at two stories in 2011), council members asked for two, two-story buildings.
The city leaders support the project in general, including the 13 below-market rate units in the initial plans. ROEM wants to build 150 units under a density bonus to go beyond the 112 for which the area is zoned. [IBA]
