A historic theater in Oakland will be converted to a charter school with a focus on technology.

Bay Area Technology School purchased the theater at 1445 23rd Ave. in Oakland.

The deal closed for $2.2M, with Newmark and Maven Properties representing the buyer.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the growing educational sphere that surrounds Oakland, more notably serving one of the area’s top performing charter schools,” Newmark Director Shawn Klein said in a statement.

The theater opened for vaudeville entertainment in 1923 before being converted into a movie theater and church. Bay Area Technology School is a charter school that focuses on STEM education for students sixth grade to 11th grade.

The Huntington Hotel, in the Nob Hill area of San Francisco, landed new owners after years of delinquent real estate loans, the Mercury News reported. Highgate, a hotel company, and Flynn Properties, a real estate investment firm, will take over the loans for a building that was in foreclosure for the past six months after the previous owner defaulted on a $56.2M loan. The historic hotel was closed for the pandemic and never reopened.

Trammell Crow Co. completed construction of an approximately 600K SF Logistics Center in Tracy, California, the company announced last week. Tracy 205 Logistics Center features 4K SF of office space along with a secured yard, a 185-foot full-depth truck court and a dedicated full-movement intersection.
