Medline Industries is preparing to open its 630K SF distribution center at 8787 West Buckeye Road in west Phoenix. The four-story property, built by McShane Construction and designed by Ware-Macomb, is a specialized distribution facility: at capacity, it will hold more than 350,000 medical devices and other supplies, the Phoenix Business Journal reports.

The new distribution center replaces a 150K SF facility in Tolleson, which the privately held Medline has outgrown. The 8787 West Buckeye facility, which has 60 truck bays and 37-foot clear height, will allow Illinois-based Medline to make just-in-time delivery at all levels of the medical supply chain, the better to deal with changing healthcare purchasing habits.

A 17K SF temperature-controlled room will handle the storage of medical supplies requiring full redundancy on generated power in case of electricity loss. Designed and constructed to achieve LEED certification, the structure includes numerous skylights in the warehouse/distribution area, LED lighting fixtures at the high bays and exterior and a heavily insulated roof deck.
