After a 26-6 vote, Brooklyn Community Board 9 accepted a controversial rezoning resolution requesting that the Department of City Planning begin looking into possible land-use changes in parts of southern Crown Heights and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. The three-hour meeting, which included chanting, shouting and a police presence, was the culmination of a year-long debate. The resolution was initially proposed in spring 2014, but was rescinded after local activist group Movement to Protect the People protested, DNAinfo reports. Today, the document is largely the same, with a few changes to land-use rules on Empire Boulevard, which was MTOPP's main concern. Overall, it asks DCP for zoning rules that will preserve the character of the neighborhood, limit new building heights and consider infrastructure needs. [DNA]
