On Nov. 11, Williams Real Estate Co president Jerry Cohen died at the age of 87 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Jerry joined his father’s firm in 1950. Over his six-decade career, Jerry and his partners, Robert Carmel and Edwin Roos, assembled a portfolio of more than a dozen properties.
His top accomplishment was restoring 28-40 West 23rd St, the original home of the Stern Brothers Department Store. Built in 1878, the property is now occupied by The Home Depot and Estee Lauder, among others. He also renovated 655 Madison Ave’s façade.
He received accolades for his design concept and marketing strategy for the Decoration & Design (D&D) Building at 979 Third Ave and the Architects & Designers (A&D) Building at 150 East 58th St. As a broker, he helped Avon sign a 676k SF lease at 9 West 57th St.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Elizabeth Grace Cohen and Catherine Cohen. He’s also survived by his first wife, Joan, and their two children, Robin Cohen Reinach and Colliers International Tri-State Region president Michael Cohen.
