The NYC Housing Authority has filed plans for a 14-story, 136-foot-tall apartment tower near the Astoria Houses in Hallets Point.
The development site, 3-24 27th Ave, is currently a parking lot at the Astoria Houses’ northern edge and along the western Queens waterfront, NY Yimby reports. The plans call for 126k SF of residential space across 136 units, averaging 774 SF per unit and 10 to 14 units per floor.
The amenities will be in the cellar and will include a lounge, a fitness room, a laundry room and bike storage. Dattner Architects is slated to design the building.
The NYCHA started working on $88M worth of repairs and renovations to the Hurricane Sandy-damaged development last month, and has been working on several mixed-income housing projects and redevelopments as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Next Gen NYCHA program. The city didn’t include the Astoria Houses on their list of projects to redevelop, however.
The Durst Organization’s currently developing a seven-building, 2.4M SF complex across the street, but construction’s halted due to high taxes and the loss of 421-a. A Durst spokesperson has said that “without a new 421-a or a replacement program, we can’t continue with the project. Nothing can be done.” [NYY]
