Paul T. Vanderslice has been named president and CEO of CREFC, effective Sept. 30, the council announced Friday. In this new role, Vanderslice will help in the organization's efforts to advance its mission and representation of the commercial and multifamily real estate finance industry.
"Paul brings deep industry expertise, a longstanding commitment to CREFC, and a clear understanding of the issues and opportunities facing our members," Toby Cobb, chair of CREFC's executive committee and board of governors, said in a statement. "Having previously served as Chair and as a current member of the Board of Governors, Paul knows the organization and the industry exceptionally well. We look forward to his leadership as we enter this next chapter."
Vanderslice joins CREFC from BMO Capital Markets, where he served as head of CMBS and oversaw the origination, securitization and distribution of new issue transactions. He also held leadership roles at CCRE and Citigroup.
Vanderslice joined BMO Capital Markets in 2020, establishing and leading the firm's CMBS platform. Before that, Vanderslice was CEO at CCRE and had a more than 30-year stint at Citigroup, where he also helped build its CMBS business.
In March, Lisa Pendergast, the former CREFC CEO, announced her retirement plans, intending to step down on Aug. 3. Ed DeAngelo stepped in as interim CEO. During Pendergast's tenure, the organization increased membership by 30%.
Vanderslice has been a member of CREFC for nearly three decades, including serving as chair of the organization's committee and board of governors from 2012 to 2013.
CREFC represents an over $6T commercial real estate finance industry and more than 400 companies and 19,000 individuals.
