USC has unveiled a $270M renovation plan for the LA Memorial Coliseum. Built in 1923, the 93,600-seat facility serves a USC’s football stadium, but over the years has hosted a variety of events, from rock concerts to Olympic Games to a national Democratic convention. In fact, renovation of the Coliseum is part of LA’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The project will be funded entirely by USC Athletics through donations, sponsorship revenue and rental income, reports Urbanize LA. Construction will begin following the 2017 college football season, with completion in time for the 2019 opening of football season.
Plans for the facility include: (1) a new structure for suites, loge boxes, club seats and a new concourse and press box; (2) new seats with wider aisles and installation of handrails throughout; (3) restoration of the Coliseum’s peristyle to its original design; (4) updated WiFi accessibility; (5) improved audio and video, with the addition of two large video screens; (6) new and improved concessions; (7) upgrades to entry concourses; (8) new field and stadium lighting; (8) and replacement of electrical and plumbing systems.
