Walt Disney Co CEO Bob Iger has been tapped by Carson Holdings, a JV of the NFL’s San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders to lead the proposed Carson Stadium project. He'll serve as the non-executive chairman of the JV and strategic leader.
The appointment is contingent on NFL owners approving the Carson site as the NFL’s new LA home. “Should the owners approve the move, Los Angeles will proudly welcome two incredible teams to our community and build a stadium worthy of their fans,” says Iger, who is being paid $1 for his services, in a statement issued by Carson Holdings. “LA football fans will enjoy unprecedented access to games during the season, in a state-of-the-art stadium designed to deliver the most entertaining, exciting and enjoyable experience possible.”
His role involves hiring a president who, under his direction, will oversee design and construction of the stadium, the fan experience on game day, branding the location and venue, marketing the stadium to the LA region, and successful re-entry of NFL teams to the LA marketplace. Disney owns ESPN, so Iger has a working relationship with many NFL owners and Commissioner Roger Goodell.
