USC Village Gets Closer To Completion

The more than $600M USC Village is nearing completion.

It will soon be ready to house 2,700 students for the fall semester, according to Harley Ellis Devereaux business development guru Roy Reel.

There are five buildings and a central power plant designed by HED and constructed by Hathaway Dinwiddie in a collegiate Gothic style.

The McCarthy Honors College with its 145-foot spire has 554 beds for freshmen, six multi-purpose classrooms and 17 study lounges.

The Harry Potter-themed dining hall, with its large chandeliers, arched openings and high ceilings, seats 330, according to Reel (pictured with a manatee in Cozumel).

The 1.2M SF project will also be home to a Trader Joe’s, according to Reel.

All buildings in USC’s largest new development have above-grade courtyards and trees.

HED is also celebrating a recent addition to the firm.

Architect Rick Keating, whose portfolio includes the Gas Company Tower in DTLA, recently joined HED to provide design consultation services for all of HED’s five offices.

He previously worked with SOM for more than 20 years and founded his own practice, Keating Architecture.
