The revised designs for Townscape Partners' 8150 Sunset residential and commercial project were presented Thursday to the Los Angeles City Planning Commission.
Designed by Frank Gehry, the project will sit on the Sunset Strip at Crescent Heights and Sunset Boulevard. Now that the redesign is complete, developers expect to head into construction in 2021. “Our goal from the start was to bring a timeless and iconic design deserved by this signature location,” Townscape Partners co-founder Tyler Siegel said.

The project was approved by the Los Angeles City Council in late 2016 with requirements that reduced the height of the project from 234 feet tall to 178 feet tall. The site now contains 203 residential units and roughly 57K SF of commercial space, reductions from the 249 units and 65K SF of commercial space originally proposed.
The new designs were in the works for years. Legal challenges from the Los Angeles Conservancy and the group Fix The City played out during that time.

The Conservancy's lawsuit concerned the demolition of a landmarked Lytton Savings and Loan bank building, most recently occupied by Chase Bank, which will need to happen before the Gehry-designed project can be built. Preservationists sought to save the bank but were ultimately unable to find a suitable relocation site or interested buyer.
A representative for the project said that there was no set date for demolition to begin at the site. City records show demolition permits have been applied for but not yet approved.
