New Affordable Housing Opens In Hollywood

Selma Community Housing had its grand opening last week in Hollywood.

Abode Communities got 1,500 applications for the five-story building at the corner of Selma and Cherokee avenues.

The $32.9M complex, which is on property owned by the LA Unified School District, has 66 units of affordable housing, Urbanize LA reports.

It is designed for families and LAUSD employees, earning between 30% and 60% of LA area median income, so they can have better access to affordable housing.

There is underground parking on-site, including bike parking, for LAUSD employees and staff at Selma Elementary School.

The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit was used to build the development.

A number of officials were on hand for Thursday's grand opening, including: California Board of Equalization member Jerome Horton (pictured far right); LAUSD Board of Education president Steve Zimmer; LA Mayor Eric Garcetti; Abode Communities president and CEO Robin Hughes; LA City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell; California State Assemblyman Richard Bloom; Abode Communities board chair Ken Krug; and LAUSD Director of Facilities Mark Hovatter.
