A 90-unit affordable housing project may soon be built near the corner of Huntington Drive South and Soto Street in El Sereno.

Plans for the four-story complex, which would be one of the largest recent such projects in the area, were recently filed with the L.A. Department of City Planning.

Rosa de Castilla L.P. wants permission from the city to build the project at 4208 East Huntington Drive, which is taller and more dense than zoning laws would normally allow, The Eastsider reports. The developer also wants to include other exemptions and less open space in return for setting aside 88 of the units for affordable housing. The other two units would house the building's managers.

The project would have a total of four four-story buildings, a community room and space for social service agencies. It would be built next to an existing apartment development.
